The sücco update!

(Originally posted March 2024)

Hi viewer. It’s me, sücco! Here is my update about the on goings!

JERI TOWER!
The response to Jeri Tower has been super positive! It really warms my heart to see people gushing over my game, even if they found it very difficult. I ended up getting frontpaged on Newgrounds, and got second place for Pixel Day! I’m super thankful for everything, and I’m excited to keep making cool stuff! I also gotta shout out OwlBag for his awesome work on the music. He’s a little pod of talent and I’m so grateful to have him around.
I used the prize money I got to purchase a Huion Kamvas, and I’m really excited to try it out when it comes. I have a feeling the art process will be a lot more fun with a screen on my tablet!

STIMBU DELTA
My newest adventure in PICO-8 is a sequel/remake of my first game, STIMBU! I’ve got some really fancy ideas for it, and development is going smoothly so far. I’ve got the little blue fella moving and shooting, as well as a few underlying systems basically worked out.

I’ll probably have a lot more done by next Sunday, just gotta find the time between college crud. The 3D thing I posted last week will also likely be part of this game, as long as space permits. It’ll be a bonus stage between each level. My hope is to have this game done by the end of my spring break, March 25th! But it could be done before that 🙂

SMBX EPISODE
Super Mario Bros. X is a neat fan game that’s been around for a very long time. It was originally created by Redigit of Terraria fame, but in recent years has been updated by a group of passionate fans.
I had plans to make a Super Mario World hack of some sort this year, but a big new update to this game came out a few weeks ago, and I had to check it out.

The level editor already has an overwhelming amount of stuff to use, but it’s also very easy to create your own objects or even have level specific scripting. The game has a bit of jank, but feels great to play and I’ve decided I want to use it for my mario crap 🙂

My goal is to get a 40 level pack done by the end of this month. Feasible with my speed? Probably not. But it’ll get some good crunch out of me! Wish me luck.

IT’S BEEN A GOOD MONTH!
Things have been going really fast and really slow at the same time. I’ve only been at school for 3 weeks, yet it’s felt like an eternity. I’m really enjoying creativity, time with friends, and just achieving goals in general. I’ve been very tired and eating a lot of crappy food though. I definitely need to focus on my health, as it’s just gonna impede me more and more.

Salad for dinner, and go to bed early!

THE FUTURE
What’s next after Stimbu. Well I love PICO-8, but I wanna get back into using Godot. I have some small games I wanna make to get comfortable with the engine, as well as some lofty visions of sequels! I came up with a great idea for Bug Toucher II the other week, and I have a cool idea for a Jeri sequel. Stimbu Delta is kind of a testing ground for mechanics I’d been thinking about for the big bad Stimbu successor in my head.

As for the blog. I’ve been brushing it off so far, but I wanna try posting every Sunday. It’s been a chill day every week so far, so I’ll take some time to write something up for you guys! I might also post cool stuff on weekdays too if it comes to it.

Well, it was nice catching up, but I need to get some good sleepy sleep. See you next week!
