The Sprink Update

Good morning blogees. I’ve decided today you’re all worthy of my biting commentary and such.

Honestly, I want to post more but this hasn’t exactly become habit. And then it’s a little cycle of feeling bad and whatever. But that’s dumb and stuff.

I just had my spring break last week and I had some fun and some learnings and some readings! I had zero motivation to work on Jeri so I felt guilty a lot, but I got it going again now.

I decided to spread my inner anguish with an all-new exciting feature:

I think another devlog will be apt before the game is done, since I have a lot to go. It will be good motivation for me. I’m not joking around when I say it will be out by April 1st. Not even kidding at all.

But anyways….

I started off my break by going to a little touristy town up near them mtns. With my goodest friends. It was still pretty wintery and some stuff was closed for the season. There was a pizzeria that had 80s arcade games in the basement that we were pumped for but it was out of freaking business!!

So we ate out like 5 times and went to the library, but the movie films we watched were the most notable thing.

There was an awesome as hell movie theater there with cool crap in it. And we saw Mickey 17, the new movie from Bong Joon-Ho. And then we saw this…

The next night we caught Kill Bill on the motel cable and had a grand time watching that. Here is my movie reviews:

Mickey 17 – 2 pizzas out of 5

This movie was a weird mess with some good moments. Me and the buddies have been watching thru David Lynch’s filmography and his Dune was fresh in my mind. Mickey 17’s oppressive exposition voice-over trying to explain every facet of the main character’s life and of the sci-fi world made me think of Dune’s similar nonsense.

It’s so weird because it’s not even a thing of telling instead of showing, because they were often telling while showing. And if they axed the voice-over and changed the script around a bit it would’ve been so much more enjoyable. It felt like I was watching some guy explain a movie to me on YouTube.

That was mostly the first half of the movie, but after the plot got going it didn’t hold up that well. It felt really scattered and little plot points got forgot about and it just wasn’t satisfying. Had some moments that were enjoyable for sure, but it had so many problems from front-to-back that I was thinking about the problems instead of getting invested. It certainly was no Parasite.

Kill Bill – 5 pizzas out of 5

I’ve gotten the sense in recent times that Quentin Tarantino is kind of a dick, but god damn are his movies fantastic. He’s just a master of building tension and telling a satisfying story and just oh my god! So exciting on a first watch, and even better every time you watch them again. Watching this after Mickey 17 reminded me why I love movies. You can just feel the passion pouring out of every frame. I’ll write a dedicated post sometime because I have other stuff to talk about still. But go watch his movies!

OTHER:

After the trip I took it easy most of the week. I picked up a copy of Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut while we were out, and did some reading.

circular image, how advanced!

I really like it, though reading still isn’t an everyday thing for me. Old habits, y’know?

I pulled out my Japanese textbook and picked up where my 101 course left off last semester. And I found a cool band called Chatmonchy that I’ve been listening to a lot.

I was blasting them with the windows down, and the pickup truck next to me at the stop light floored it when the light turned green.

And speaking of musics, I’ve been wanting to learn for a long ass time. I even got a Keyboard the other Christmas to learn piano, but it’s been a space issue (can’t fit it in my tiny rat-hole dorms!). So I went and ordered a guitar before break. And have been music-ing it up since.

I’ve been working at it a bit every day and it feels cool as heck. I tried learning guitar some years ago with one we had in the house, but it’s a right-handed guitar and I’m left-handed. And I didn’t even know, so I was playing it upside-down like an idiot and that’s probably why I gave up. I’ve been learning music theory from this fellow, Fake Dr. Ben Levin, on da Tube too. Hard but cool.

Over the break I was playing a bunch of Final Fantasy, too. And Final Fantasy II! I tried starting from the NES original a few years ago, but I messed up a save state and lost some progress, so I got impatient and gave up. But I finally got back to it and even did all the RetroAchievements. It was a blast and I’ll write about it soon.

So yah that’s what’s been going on. I’ll write again soon, babes. But I got some this and that to do today. Thanks for reading!!

🐒See you next post!🐒

  1. i look forward to april 1st!🥳

btw, i used be so in love with chatmonchy too! when i was a babby, i frequently used my library’s music service that allowed people to freely download a certain # of songs/music videos per week. i’d filter it by japanese artists and chatmonchy was one of the artists! my fav was shangrila. so amazing to see u reference them. very nostalgic

The other japanese artist i discovered in that method was anan ryoko. they primarily do instrumental/piano music. Their style is a little more ‘daintier’ than the styles of DJ Okawari, Raujika, or July, but i enjoy it. It’s all nice music to chill or vibe to. my fav is dans un reve.

    thank you for the update!

    1. That’s awesome! The library kicks ass, as does Shangri-la. I’ve been feeling real nostalgic for music and games and all that from late 2000s and early 2010s (even if I didn’t grow up with it). Which makes sense because I’m becoming old and all that.

That song is cool, I gave their album a download and I’ll give it a listen sometime. Thanks for the rec anonymous little fellow!

  2. This blog was a nice journey, starting from some icy stuff leading into some media consumption, then some music and finally some gaming! This had everything I hold dear to my heart, especially the ice. Can’t get enough of slippin’ and slidin’ in front of everyone on the passing-by bus. Anyways, I can’t wait to see what’s next…
