plumptree music

(Originally posted February 2024)

I’m pretty stubborn with my music tastes, I think. I was pretty fixated on video game music for a long time, until high school when I started finding bands I liked. Listening to music was basically my only coping mechanism for existing through those times. I would find someone I like, listen through an album/discography on repeat until I got sick of it. Everything I’ve listened to gets a place in my library, and I just kinda cycle through the same 15 artists, the list slightly growing over time.

There’s a lot of stuff I’m passively interested in, that I haven’t taken the time to get into yet. It takes a bit of work to get into a new album or artist, and I suppose my path of least resistance is to not do that.

Last month, I had a very stressful couple of days. I was basically bed-ridden waiting for things to resolve, and I decided to try out some new music to keep myself occupied. I learned of Plumtree from its relation to the book/movie/show/whatever Scott Pilgrim, which was on my mind at the time. Plumtree ended up touching my soul in the perfect way, and they’ve been my go to since. I bet I would’ve loved them if I found them in highschool.

They’re an all-girl rock band from Canada, active for about seven years to modest success. Pretty obscure though, so I probably won’t be getting anything on CD unfortunately 😦

They have three full albums, all of which have their own taste to them. Their last album, This Day Won’t Last at All, is my favorite at the moment.

Their music has that mix of rock, pop, and punk influence that I’m drawn to, and their lyrics have a balance of silly and sincere that I really appreciate. Check them out sometime!

🐒See you next post!🐒
