Third time's the charm?

Free’d from school; Time for Pokemon and drool

Hiiii! I just finished my third year of college! Woohoo!

It’s technically still finals week, but somehow it feels like ancient history anyways. I moved back home on Tuesday (lots of cleaning and reorganizing, but my room is better than ever!) and had an online final on Wednesday.

My final boss was an assembly program due Thursday night. Written in a custom assembly language that works with this “virtual embedded microcontroller” project that my professor has. I planned to do a ray casting thing like Wolfenstein 3D or something, but it came to Wednesday afternoon and I hadn’t started it.

I came up with a new idea (sliding 15 piece picture puzzle) around 4pm and finished by 2am that night.

I was on call with my friends and they were watching Flushed Away and hating every excruciating moment while I programmed away. I don’t think any of us were happy we were up ’til 3am though…

I ended up (amicably) quitting my painful gas station job, thinking I had some other opportunities in the bag. Turns out they weren’t as in the bag as I thought, so things are looking uncertain when it comes to me doing physical labor, but I put in lots of applications so far!

Here’s what Jeri has been up to! There was an in-person local gamedev meetup last Thursday.

I finally decided that I’m fed up with all the issues with Jeri 2 that have been making me not wanna work on it, almost 2 months with no progress is enough, so I started from zilch with a new idea (gun (inspired by sodoj’s comment (thanks))).

So yeah I got the movement done with a lot more code to spare. I didn’t get anything playable done for the meetup so I’ve just been feeling burnt out with steam coming out of my head, and then finals came up. But now I’m free and I’ll get back to it!! And finally finish a sequel!!!

POKEMON PART 2!!!

I got all hyped about Pokemon and did some planning and playing and wrote the last post. And that was in January!! Jeez!!

I just didn’t feel like playing Pokemon once winter break ended and I got back to school I guess. I got home and thought I lost Ruby version in the moving shuffle, but found it after all! But I booted it up again and looked through my PC boxes and now I feel like playing it again 🙂

I just wanted to do a quick post today catching up on the progress I made all those months ago and never posted about. I’ve beaten the first 4 gyms and done about everything I can do so far.

Today I did a little drawing of the team members I’ve accumulated so far!

I have a notebook dedicated to my Poke-business. I’ll tell ya drawing with colored pencils on thin-ass notebook paper made me feel like a Kindergartener.

I’ve got 7 of the 10 guys I planned to use on this playthrough, and so I will exposit to you my feelings on these Poke-creatures!

Favorite-child picking

RUDY Jr. / Sceptile

I ended off last post saying I was using the shiny bot, but I actually didn’t like it so I learned how to RNG manipulate instead. Basically, using a timer thing to hit frame perfect inputs to get a certain ID and then to get certain encounters. I’ll go into more detail next time as I’ll be manipping for another shiny party member!

But yeah, Sceptile. Hasn’t done anything amazing for me this run. She helped me through a tough battle using some Fury Cutter strats, but that’s the most notable thing. I think right now the moveset kinda sucks, doing too many different things, none of them particularly useful.

But hey, that shiny sprite is very pretty! The team looks great together. It’s the first time I’ve planned a team on aesthetics rather than being ultra optimized. Fun!

DEARDRE / Lineone

Poor Deardre has been relegated to using HM moves. She did some good work early on but she doesn’t do much battling these days. I keep her and some other Zigzagoons in my party cuz they have Pick Up, so they sometimes find rare expensive items for you after every battle. Economy!

QUESADILLA / Masquerain

I searched in the grass for hours to find a 1% Surskit to add to my team. I was working the register at the time and was playing the game in-between customers 🙂

I love little bugs but this one wasn’t worth the hassle to keep it around. Surskit has pretty terrible moves and stats, and I kept it from evolving to learn Bubblebeam to replace Bubble. I think she got me through the second Gym with her Fighting-type resistance. But yeah, I planned around her learnset and gave her some extra experience but still she’s not very good. Unfortunate…

SWEAPON / Slugma

Haven’t used this guy much so far. Damage output isn’t too crazy but she has some utility with Yawn. I’m unsure about her future, as she evolves and gets good moves pretty late from what I remember.

I named her after SWEPs from GMod, which I just looked up and found out it stands for Scripted Weapon. Cool.

JUNKET / Skarmory

Skarmory is a good Pokemon so JUNKET has been pretty helpful so far. Not too exciting because I’ve used Skarmory many times over many playthroughs, but I do need a bird on my team… for bird things.

BICONIC / Baltoy

Baltoy is an interesting Pokemon but I’ve never used it before. Never really used Psychic types when playing these Hoenn games either. I like Psychic moves and I like exploding and self-destructing so I’m excited to use this critter!

ZETABOSS / Zangoose

Zangoose rocks!!! Never used this guy before, but I love the design. Turns out its fast and powerful, and gets Swords Dance which is an awesome attack-buffing move (makes me think of FAST in Final Fantasy).

The fourth Gym was Fire type, I trained up Surskit to lead the fight, but her lousy stats and move pool made her no good for it. I had just got Zangoose though, and taught it Dig which is good against Fire type. I set up max attack buffs on every battle and swept everything with Dig. It felt awesome!!!

And now… I love this fellow.

How now?

So I’m right before the fifth Gym (my dad) now. Some of my guys are a little underleveled, and this Gym is tough, so I’m running around in the desert killing bugs to get stronger.

After this Gym, I can swim in the water and do all sorts of things, and I’ll be able to add two more members to my team! I’ll keep you all updated on the journey!

Thanks for reading my Poke-nerd. I’ll try to get posting on here in my daily schedule now that school is donezo. Thanks for sticking with me and I love you reader!

🐒See you next post!🐒
